Lady Gaga - the fame whore

Before I start I want to make one thing clear – I like Lady Gaga. I like her music and I appreciate that she’s trying to be different. However recently, I think that she’s trying too hard.

I can’t be the only one who thinks this right?!

When she first came out I celebrated her individuality; I was glad someone wanted to try to be a little bit different. I was glad to see someone wear crazy outfits and not take herself too seriously (like Bjork - but less creepy) but then that all changed. Gaga started going around saying that everything she did was “art”, from her music to her wardrobe and I thought to myself oh god so it begins.

The funny thing is Gaga isn’t doing anything new. She’s just repackaged what previous pop stars were doing long before she was born. I know that’s not what you want to hear but her style is just glam rock, art rock, and pop mixed together. I’m not saying that she’s not allowed to be influenced, because she is. What pisses me off is that people think she’s some great innovator. Because she’s not. She’s no David Bowie and she’s no Andy Warhol (lord knows she probably wishes we were both of them). She’s good at what she does, but that’s about it.

So when she started going around saying “art this” “art that”, I slowly started to take her less and less seriously. Then she got involved in politics, and I fucking hate it when celebrities do this: it’s just feeding the fame worshipping media circus that follows them like drooling morons. Sometimes they help, most times they don’t.

I’m not saying she can’t have a cause (I’m all up for gay rights) but wearing a dress made out of meat to convey US military’s attitude to homosexuals was just a little… sad. Especially since practically no one got the symbolism. All everyone was thinking was WTF? and what a waste of steak (well I was thinking these anyway).

I honestly believe that all these costumes and all the drama help her hide how self-conscious she really is.

I think Lady Gaga wants to be loved so much that she’s prepared to do anything to shock/dazzle/wow us in-order to make sure that we always will

Maybe I’m wrong though, seeing as I don’t know her personally; and before anyone even dares – no I am not jealous of her: she’s got a Greek nose and wears lobsters on her head. Neither of which I’m a fan of.

I know a lot of “little monsters” are probably going to be pissed with me, but deep down inside we all know it’s true. My wish would be for Lady Gaga to go back to being more relaxed and fun. I don’t like her new serious “artist” persona. I think it’s a carefully crafted delusion by a woman who loves to play dress up, and a woman who desperately wants to be the centre of attention.

Despite this though, I still think she’s a very talented and intelligent person. I like that she’s so passionate about supporting homosexual rights. I just wish she wasn’t so fucking “arty” about it. I mean what’s wrong with a badge? More people would have understood that. Anyway I have no doubt that she doesn’t work hard for her “art” so even though I don’t agree with it, I can’t say that I don’t respect the amount of effort that goes into it.
