British students demonstrating against raised tuition fees
Filed under: SocietyThis demonstration comes at an interesting time for me: it was only earlier this year that I made the decision not to continue with higher education. I had plans to do an Illustration course at my local university (BA hons). However in the end I chose not to continue my studies for several reasons…
1) I wasn’t sure if it was what I wanted to do with my life 2) I felt pressured into doing a degree because most employers seem to think that a piece of paper proves that you’re an intelligent employable person (I have since learnt that this is bullshit) 3) I couldn’t afford it
(And yes it was in that order).
I didn’t (and still don’t) mooch off mummy and daddy so I had things like food to buy and rent to pay etc. I was already working a part-time job (on my free days)- just to live; so going into full-time university regardless of financial help/loans/magic beans would have meant that I wouldn’t have been able to survive!
Before I left though, I knew the tuition fees were going to be raised – by how much I didn’t know, but I knew they would go up. So although I know the prices are stupidly high, I’m not fucking surprised – so why is everyone else?!
It’s a conservative government people; it’s just hiding under the mask of coalition. Nick Clegg made stupid promises that he shouldn’t have made & now can’t keep, and yes that’s his fucking bad. However I think everyone is forgetting something quite crucial here - he’s a fucking politician. They lie, they make empty promises, and they fuck up all the time. Heck Politician or not people do it all the time!
The country is crippled it’s in more debt than it can ever possibly repay. Many of the British public are lazy benefit demanding whiners and as a result of that, the economy and society itself have collapsed. So unless we get the money from somewhere Britain’s fucked basically and you want to know something else?
Most degrees aren’t even worth the paper their printed on
Yeah – you fucking heard me.
Giving away too much of something devalues it: every year graduate fucktards leave university thinking they’ve got it all in bag. Find out it’s actually not that easy in the real world and then fuck about doing shit all – essentially wasting their degrees. Some go on to do different things to their degrees; which is fine - although it still seems like a waste of money and time if you ask me. Some however are genuinely talented/smart and go on to achieve so much, which is great. Yay! Go you!
Anyway¬ these demonstrations aren’t going to do anything but lead to more violence and social disintegration. Parliament aren’t going to change their minds, the decision has been made. Throwing things, defacing national buildings/statues, violent rioting and general hooligan behaviour is disgusting and counterproductive. It’s not way to get your message heard. What is nowadays I’m not sure; but I know it’s not throwing urine at Police officers who are only doing their jobs.
So I’m all up for freedom of speech and demonstrating… However violence will ultimately achieve nothing. You’d have thought that we’d have learnt this by now.
